Why is feminism sometimes likened to abolitionism?

You can see it whenever people say things like "feminism isn't anti-male in the same way abolitionism wasn't anti-white. They both dealt with extreme injustice by an oppressive class, but didn't take rights away from the one in power." Sure, one can make a case about lack of rights. But was the condition of women really comparable to the condition of slaves in any way?
